About Service Reanimator

Service Reanimator is for windows OS.
The program can assist you in monitoring services in your entire network and take action like : restart them if they stop unexpectedly, mail & send net messages.
A Graphical Service Monitor is built into Service Reanimator. The monitor will show the status of all monitored services.



Graphical monitor

Service Reanimator is a service that keeps running even when no user is logged on to the system. This will give the possibility of Logging of a server, and have Service reanimator still send mail and netmesseges.

Installing the Reanimator monitor Service


First time Service reanimator is started you will Receive an messages that you will have to INSTALL the service.

Install the service from service reanimator by pressing the blinking Button in the left upper corner called "Install Service Reanimator". Note, you can always uninstall the service again form Service reanimator.

To make sure you can Monitor Services on remote Hosts/Computers. You will have to install the service with a Administrator or  a Domain administrator.
If you choose to check
"Use Local System..." or any other local account (Note: Workgroup known users can give possibility of monitoring remote host) you will only be able to monitor services on the local host/computer.

Mail Configuration

The settings used in the Mail Configuration is a global settings for all mails send from Service reanimator. All services that are configured to send Mail after the chosen number of retries, will use theses settings.
Use the Test Button, to test your configuration.

Send to : The mail address of the person or mail list/group  who will receive the mail.

Subject
: Text that is displayed as subject in receiving mailbox.

Mail host
: Address of The mail gateway. both on the LAN and mail gateways on the internet can be used.

Sender Name : Sender name shown in the receiving mailbox.

Configurating Monitoring of  services

To add a service for monitoring by Reanimator. Right Click in the Monitored Services list and choose "Add service to monitor" or choose "Add service to monitor"  in the left menu. this will show a list containing all installed service on the local system. From here you can also connect to another host over the network.

Choose a service in the service list and right clik on this. Click on "add service to monitor list". Then you will be presented with the Monitor Configuration, see picture below.

Start Service if it stops :  Keep this checked if you want the Reanimator to try and  restart the service when it unexpectedly stops.
Restart other Services" : check this if you want other services to be restarted when the service stops unexpectedly
Ignore Ping status of computer : Uncheck if you want to ping the host before checking the service on thethat host. Leave checked if ping is disabled on the host.
Number og retries:
Choose a number form 1 to 5. This is the number of times Service reanimator will try to restart the service before giving up.  When this number of retrys is exceed Service reanimator will send a mail or a net message or both if configuered to do this.
Send Mail if Service cannot be started : If a service fails to start after the selected number of reties, a mail will be send according to the mail configuration. See mail configuration help
Send Net messages if service ...: If a service fails to start after the selected number of reties, a net message will be send. Make sure you have "Messenger" service running on the host that send this and the one receiving it.
You can write in  a user Name or Host name/ip in this box. Use "Test net send" to test it.
